You must be a responsible Owner

1. Exercise your dog everyday. PitBulls are high energy dogs and they need a way of burning off  built up energy. A short 10-15 minute walk or a game of fetch in the backyard will help burn excess energy that can lead to behavior problems.

2. Never leave your dog alone with other dogs (or any animal). Even if your dogs get along great with other animals, Dogs are pack dogs and will try an establish a leader. A good piece of advice I received a long time ago was, never trust your dog not to fight.

3. Always keep your dogs on a leash in public. Most, all public places have leash  laws. Obey these laws. Your dog will be seen in a positive light and accidents are less likely to occur.

4. Always supervise your dog. Never allow them to just roam. Dogs that are loose are often hurt eiter by cruel people or an accident. Please know where your dog is at all times.

5. Supervise your dogs with small children. This is an absolute must, small children are often hurt by dogs, not always out of anger, but dogs can scratch them or step on them, and cause injury even by accident.

6. Please Spay or Neuter your dog. Unless you plan on doing something where the dog should not be spayed or neutered-please get it done. This will prevent any accidental breedings and over population of animal shelters.

7. Train, Train,Train your dog. You can take your dog to obedience classes or hire a private trainer to help you. This is very important for all dog owners but especially Bully or PitBull owners. If you can not control your dog you can count on things getting out of hand. Please start Get training as soon as possible.

8. Avoid dog parks if possible. Dog parks couldebe a disaster waiting to happen. Some dogs have been killed by bigger dogs, so use your judgement when going to a dog park. You could enroll your puppy into socialization classes, or rescue dog calsses. Your dog will have a far better chance at proper socialization in one of these classes than at a dog park.

9. Socialize your dog. Take them to as many places as possible, while they are young, meet new people and as many other dogs as possible. Socializing your PitBull will help curb any future problems that might occur.

10. Keep your dog properly confined. PitBulls are known to be the masters of escape. Make sure you have the ability to keep them in your yard or properly confined. Installing a privacy fence is a good idea.

11.  Keep your dog  protected from the extremes of nature, (rain, heat, cold) because a lot of dogs have died from exposure.

12.  Feed a good quality food. I recommend a puppy food (Diamond Puppy) until 1 year of age. Keep fresh water available at all times. For vitamins or supplements check out  www.k9healthy.com

Responsible ownership starts from the time your PitBull comes to live with you. Irresponsible owner's are one of the major causes for all the problems the breed face today. It's our hope here at PitBull Empire that we can spread the word and educate more owners to take responsibility for the actions of their dog.

In order for things to change, we must first change our own actions and look at how they effect the world around us. Until we do that, things will simply stay the way they are right now.
